Finishing & installation

If replacing an existing door, remove interior trim (casing) by scoring with a utility knife and carefully prying off the interior wall. Save if you plan on re-using. Unscrew hinges and remove existing door slab. Remove old jambs and threshold, checking for screws from behind the hinges and weatherstripping. Clean the opening.

TOOLS NEEDED: Power drill with Phillips head bit and 1/16" wood drill bit. Scissors. Utility knife. We also recommend towels/rags for supporting door while hanging.

1. Assemble framing (jamb and threshold). Screw head jamb, lock jamb, hinge jamb, and threshold together using included screws. Use 2 screws at each connection point (jamb to jamb, jamb to threshold), drilling pilot holes with a 1/16" drill bit.

2. Install jamb assembly into rough opening. First apply caulking to the sub floor where the threshold will go. We recommended 4 large beads of caulk about an inch apart. Next center the assembly into the rough opening and ensure the lock/hinge side are on the correct side and that the sill slopes towards the exterior of the home. Ensure the four corners are flush with the interior wall and then install shims at each of the four corners (about 4 inches from the top/bottom of the door jamb legs) until the frame is square and plumb (check at each corner using a level). Once the frame is square and plumb, drill pilot holes through the jambs, passing through the shims, and into the rough opening studs behind the shims at each of the 4 corners. Use the included screws to anchor the jamb assembly into place.

3. Hang door into jamb assembly. First attach hinges to the door using the included screws. Next, using towels/rags (sometimes a block of wood helps too) to support the weight of the door against the floor, have a friend or two hold the slab in place while you secure the hinges to the jamb, starting with the top hole of the top hinge and working your way down.

4. Adjust door as needed. Check to make sure the door is square in the opening and swings open/closed easily. Remove anchor screws and adjust shimming as needed. Once the door shims are correct, add shims above and below deadbolt bore and anchor to through jambs into studs, just like you did at each of the four corners.

5. Seal the door. Install weatherstripping, corner seals, and door sweep.

6. Install trim. Install exterior trim (brickmould) using 2 beads of caulking and included finishing nails, nailing on the inside and outside edge of the brickmould about every foot. Re-attach or install interior trim (casing) as needed.

7. Paint the door. Clean the door (get all of the dust debris off of the surface of the door). Click here for our guide on how to paint your door. We recommend our paint or any exterior grade acrylic latex paint.

8. Install the lock. Follow lock manufacturer instruction.

Customer photo review of Smooth Fiberglass Entry Door Slab (6 Panel)

I went to Home Depot, Menards, and Lowe’s and scoured their websites. Finding a replacement patio door seemed nearly impossible, and the ones I was able to find had shipping times of 6-weeks or more and would need to be trimmed onsite. It seemed too good to be true when I found the exact dimensions online from Please Doors. A simple Google search brought me there, and I’m beyond impressed. The door is EXACTLY the same size, it got here within 3-4 days and delivery was a breeze. I wasn’t even home, FedEx literally called; I opened my garage remotely, and they left it in there. I’m going to save a ton of money on install. I Couldn’t be happier with the service, and I never leave reviews. Thanks so much.

The door sweep is 1/2” above making contact with the threshold. For a $1,200 door I would expect a much better quality sweep. The fact that it doesn’t seal at threshold would be unexceptable for even an over the counter door for 1/3 the price.

Store owner replied: Hello Brian, Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. The gap between the door sweep and the threshold may require adjusting the threshold to ensure proper contact. Additionally, we’d be happy to send you a universal wrap-around sweep to help seal the gap effectively. Please let us know if you’d like us to proceed with this, or if there’s anything else we can assist you with. Thank you for bringing this to our attention—we appreciate the opportunity to make it right. Best, Charlie

What a nice company to do business with! Call with a question and the person who picks up the call has the answers and the authority to make changes. ( I over ordered hinges). My contractor annd I are impressed with the stability and quality of the door, it feels heavy but moves so smooth. The paint finish made it ready to go. Handy, as I was in a bit of a rush for a party. My little laundry room is now so charming because of my Pease door! Nancy White

Having a steel door frame in a masonry wall with a damaged Pease door over 20 years old, there were no other choices put to use the same brand. Finding a Pease door that hadn’t been pre drilled for hinges and lock set was another matter since current specs were slightly different. The sales staff , after some false starts, came through with a smooth fiberglass door and met the opening of Du lit Bistro in Fortville, IN.

1/3/24.......OVERDUE on this review. I apologize! My husband and I are ecstatic over our beautiful door with the gorgeous sidelights. I did my research and looked at other companies but decided to go with PEASE doors mainly because of your wonderful representative, Ariel. Ariel answered all the questions I had, was always available to take my call and/or answer my numerous texts. Thank you, Ariel! We love our new door. The double doors in our already new constructed home caused the foyer area to be very dark, which I hated. I found PEASE doors and fell in love with the built in private blind and the sidelights as you see here in the pictures. Not only are we enjoying all the natural light that comes into our foyer area, you can also see that our one dog Ricky loves looking out the window built into the front door. Lucy his sidekick is also enjoying it as well. We are overjoyed with our new door and sidelights. Thanks again! Darcy Butkus

Customer photo review of 36" x 80" Smooth Fiberglass Entry Door Slab (6 Panel)

Excellent fit and build quality! This is the 2nd slab I have purchased for my neighbors to replace worn out steel doors. Both have commented on how much better the fiberglass door works and how their entry is no longer cold in the winter due to poor sealing of the old doors. I have been very pleased with the service and response from the Pease team as well

Replaced an existing Pease door so it fit like a glove. 4 stars only because it’s another “made in china” product unfortunately. Otherwise a good quality door, solid wood encapsulated by fiberglass skin. On sale price of 499 made it no brainer.

David Pease went over and above to assure we found the exact door we were looking for. We received our door in a timely manner and everything was exactly as ordered. The delivery was a bit delayed by FedX most probably due to Hurricane Ida. The door is exactly as described and am so pleased with my purchase and service.

36" Smooth Fiberglass Entry Door Slab (6 Panel)

The door came in packaged securely to an oversized pallet with no damage. I did have to bevel the hinge side of door to prevent potential binding on door frame but no big issue. I was very satisfied with the door. Very good quality.

Smooth Fiberglass Entry Door Slab (6 Panel)

The door will be perfect once it’s installed. We have the opening cut, but the door is still hanging out with half a dozen other miscellaneous doors waiting to be hung. The door was well-packed for immediate shipping, and is exactly what I ordered. The company was very accommodating and assured me I would get the door I ordered. I will send some photos later this summer when everything has been completed.

Old house. Once original framing and rotten bottom plate issues were addressed, and framing was squared, the door installation went flawlessly. Door swing, consistent reveals all around, and door hardware installed, the weather seals compression look right. Thank you.

Great product! Would highly recommend, it’s exactly what we wanted and needed. A solid exterior door with a window we could open. We paid extra to have it put together and shipped all in 1 piece. Shipping was safe and good.

Delivery went fine, door came with scuffed up paint. Which is did not wipe off, and will need to be painted. Nice door though otherwise...

Store owner replied: Scott, thank you for your feedback, and we're glad to hear you like the door overall! Our fiberglass doors come factory-primed, and will need to be painted as part of the installation process to ensure long-term durability and maintain warranty coverage. That said, we understand how frustrating it can be to receive something that looks scuffed right out of the box. If you'd like, feel free to send us a photo at info@peasedoors.com so we can take a look and make sure everything is in good shape before you paint. We're here to help however we can! — The Pease Doors Team

The doors are awesome! However my original idea was to use them as interior bypass barn doors but @ 100 lbs each they exceeded my hardware. I'll just find a different application for them.

There were no specification on how to install your doors. In Florida, we have strict specification per the Florida Building Code (6th Edition), but my main concern was my customer and what gurantee he will have base on the Florida Building Code per installing your door. I spoke to one of your representative as well as one of your supervisors, but neither were able to put in writing a gurantee for my customer. My suggestion is that you put the requirements per the FL Building Code in writing, as your specifications, if this is what you base your guranteed on. I simply have nothing from your company to give to my customer stating what you will or will not gurantee.

My fiberglass front door was a well constructed quality product that was of a much higher quality than what I could have bought at one of the big box stores. It fit perfectly with my entrance front door frame and the hinge cut outs were exactly in the right place and required no adjustment to the door frame. The contractor who installed the door was Luciano Cruz of Top Quality Contracting - I obtained his contact information from your website as he is one of your preferred contractors listed for my area. This is the second Pease product that Luciano has installed for me, the first being front door side lights a few years ago. So not only do you offer a quality products, but I also connected with a professional contractor that is a perfectionist from your website!
