How we estimate

Most in-stock items that need no shop work leave our warehouse the same or next business day. Ordering by 12 pm Eastern, Monday to Friday, gives yours the best chance of shipping the same day.

Shop work starts once everything is in stock: trimming, cutting or prep takes 1 business day, finishing (priming, painting or staining) 1 to 3, and assembly, such as a prehung door system, 2 to 5. Out-of-stock items without a restock date usually ship in about 2 weeks, plus any shop work.

Ground parcels take 2 to 4 business days. Doors, sidelites and other large items go by freight: Priority Freight takes 2 to 5 business days and economy freight 7 to 15; you choose at checkout. Weekends and carrier holidays aren't counted. These are estimates, not guarantees.

Prehung Access Door

Crafted from exterior grade fiberglass skins and polyurethane insulation, this is the best access door on the market. Door provides access to crawl spaces, utility rooms, attics, and storage areas.

Available in a range of sizes to suite your project. Ships prehung (assembled) and ready for installation.

Attics and utility rooms are typically outside of the central air-conditioned space of a home. These spaces are typically divided from the climate-controlled space by insulated walls but are accessed by smaller-than-normal doors, called "access," "utility," or "crawlspace" doors or panels.

Most access doors on the market are either un-insulated and made of medium density fiberboard or thin particle board or wood skins with polystyrene insulation. None of them meet the mark. Using exterior grade door materials and insulation, we offer prehung doors that are perfect for accessing HVAC units, water heaters, attic spaces, and other utility
spaces without compromising thermal efficiency.

Specifications:

  • Comes standard with two satin nickel hinges
  • 1 3/4" thick door with smooth fiberglass skin
  • 2" solid wood stiles frame the inside of the panel, which is filled with high-grade polyurethane insulation
  • Jambs are constructed from poplar wood
  • Door and jambs are primed and ready for paint
  • Doors are center bored 2-1/8" at 2-3/8" backset for standard lock. (Non-Handed/Reversible) -- lock not included

Measurements:

  • Select from a range of unit sizes 19.5" to 37.5" wide and 37" to 61" tall
    • Cut-out (rough opening) in wall should be ~1/4 - 1/2" larger than unit size in width and height to allow for proper shimming
    • Door panel (slab) measures 1.75" narrower and shorter than unit size
  • Select 4 9/16" or 6 9/16" deep jambs to fit you wall thickness
    • 4 9/16" is typical for 2x4 construction, while 6 9/16" is typical for 2x6 construction
Energy Efficient

Constructed using exterior-grade fiberglass skins and filled with high-density polyurethane foam for exceptional thermal performance. Includes foam weatherstrip on all four sides to seal the panel tightly into the jambs when shut.

The "U Value" as determined by NFRC 100.2010 is 0.18.

Non-Handed (Reversible) Lock Prep

Door comes prepped with a 2 1/8" diameter lock bore hole with center located 2 3/8" from the edge of the door. This bore hole is centered on the height of the door panel (slab) which makes the door reversible. Just flip the door upside down to switch between a left and right hand inswing door.

Customer photo review of Insulated Fiberglass Utility Access Door

Got my friend to come over and install the door this morning. Demolition, installation, hardware addition, and cleanup all took about four hours. These photos capture some of the process. Waisted space be gone! I now have extra storage and it’s already in use. Thank you for everything. Who knew that a door could make someone so happy?

Insulated Fiberglass Utility Access Door

The door came broken I sent pictures and they are supposed to send me another one have got a email saying when it is going to ship

Insulated Fiberglass Utility Access Door

The door is too wide for the frame. It was clearly put together that way since I had to force the door open even before I installed the door/frame. For the price I paid for this door (too much) I expected a better quality build.

Insulated Fiberglass Utility Access Door

Store owner replied: Hi Kevin, we’re sorry the door and frame did not arrive fitting together properly. The door should operate smoothly before installation, so we understand your frustration with having to force it open. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Please reach out to us at info@peasedoors.com with your order information and photos, and we’d be happy to review the issue with you. -The Pease Doors Team

Liked the door, however was slightly damaged in shipping. Small dent on one side. Probably should have had some styrofoam on the back side of the door.

Door arrived damaged

Insulated Fiberglass Utility Access Door

Store owner replied: Hi Joel, I am so sorry to hear about your order arriving damaged. Please reach out to us directly at info@peasedoors.com so we can promptly assist you with a replacement. -The Pease Doors Team

It arrived damaged and could take 2 to 4 weeks to get a replacement. This is on top of a long wait already to get it in the first place. The customer service rep did not seem to be very concerned about that. Just said they did not have a way to expedite. this is taking so long that I lost my window with my installer, who is now off to another job, and who knows when he will be back. Could be December, but then we run into Xmas break time. Winter is coming, and I have no door. Very frustrating.

Insulated Fiberglass Utility Access Door

Store owner replied: Hello Sandra, We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating the delays have been. However, it’s important to clarify that the original door was not actually damaged, it had a minor disconnection from the jamb that could have been easily fixed with a mallet. Instead of reaching out to us for assistance, you refused the delivery. Once that happened, we attempted to have the shipment rerouted back to you, but FedEx was unable to complete it within their required time frame. When we began preparing a replacement, you informed us that you actually purchased the wrong size and that you wanted to switch to the next size up. Since that size wasn’t in stock, there was an unavoidable lead time while we waited for the manufacturer to produce it. We truly empathize with your frustration, but much of the delay resulted from the refused delivery and the size change after the initial order. We always encourage customers to contact us directly if something appears damaged or incorrect , we’re happy to walk through quick solutions and ensure you receive what you need as smoothly and quickly as possible. – The Pease Doors Team

Questions buyers ask

Will a 35-3/4" x 79" slab fit my 36" x 80" door frame?

Yes. 36" x 80" is what the door is called; the slab itself measures 35-3/4" x 79", which leaves the gaps a door needs to swing and seal. Measure your old slab to be sure, or send us your measurements and we confirm the fit before we build.

Slab only or complete door system: which do I need?

A slab is just the door, for a frame that is square and in good shape. A complete door system is the door hung in a new frame with the threshold, hinges and weatherstrip: choose it if the frame is rotted or out of square, or if you are changing the opening. The Door System Calculator turns a rough opening into the right size.

Which way does my door open?

Stand inside the home, facing the door. If it swings toward you it is an inswing door, and the knob side names the hand: knob on your left is left hand inswing. For an outswing door, use the hinge side instead.

Can I add my own glass later?

Choose a cut-out option and we cut the opening in our shop for the matching glass kit. Glass kits are listed by the outside size of their plastic frame, which is 1" larger than the cut-out (a 23" x 37" cut takes a 24" x 38" kit), and a shaped cut (round top, arch or oval) needs a kit of the same shape.

When will it ship?

In-stock items that need no shop work ship the same or next business day. Shop work starts once everything is in stock: 1 business day for prep, 1 to 3 for finishing, and 2 to 5 to assemble a complete door system. Doors go by freight: Priority Freight takes 2 to 5 business days, economy freight 7 to 15; you choose at checkout. The estimate under the price updates for the size and options you pick.
