Description

Replace or upgrade existing interior doors with our hand-crafted interior door slabs. Classic six panel style.

Made of solid poplar panels, this door is immensely satisfying to open/close and brings a stately look and feel to any room.

Poplar Wood

Poplar is the perfect wood for interior doors:

  • Sturdy but relatively light hardwood that will handle normal wear & tear with ease and last for decades
  • Renowned for it's ability to take paint and stains well
  • Dense enough to upgrade sound privacy but light enough to stay aligned in your frames and easily open & shut
  • Carpenters also prefer poplar as it is a relatively easy wood to work with and finish (great pore density, balance of medium firmness/weight, doesn't have the sappy or knotty qualities of pine)
  • Extremely stable wood holds it size and shape (prevents warping which can cause doors to get "stuck")

An excellent option for bedroom, hallway, office, bathroom, closet, and pantry doors.

Key measurements:

  • Slab Height: 80" (trimmable up to 1/2")
  • Slab Width: Available in a variety of widths 12-36" (trimmable up to 1/8" per side for 1/4" total, note that actual door width is 1/8" less than stated size, so for example a 36" door is actually 35 7/8" to ensure clearance with door jamb)
  • Slab Thickness: 1.375" (1 3/8") - standard interior door thickness

Additional specifications:

  • Sand and paint or stain to finish, see our paint category to purchase paint & finishing instructions below
  • Flat edge (not "prepped" or mortised for hinges) - trace your existing hinges onto your new slab
  • Kiln dried shrink resistant panels to ensure maximum stability (limits wood expansion/contraction/warping)
  • Stile & rail construction with true jointed panels for a premium look and feel

Finishing & Installation:

1. Before finishing, remove existing door and trace hinges and lock bore placement onto new door (by laying existing door on top of new door and tracing with a pencil)

2. Bore out lock holes and mortise hinges on new door. Screw hinges onto new door slab.

3. Sand door with 150-180 grit sandpaper (remember to sand back and forth in the direction of the grain)

4. Clean the door (get all of the dust debris off of the surface of the door)

5. Finish the door:

  • To stain: Apply a high-quality wood stain and finish with a clear polyurethane topcoat (solvent-borne or waterborne polyurethane)
  • To paint: 1. Seal door with oil-based primer. 2. Apply 2 coats of our trim urethane paint or an interior oil-based or acrylic latex paint

6. Hang the door in the existing jambs, wedging shims or underneath the bottom edge of the door while you screw the hinges into the jambs, working from top to bottom

7. Install door lock/hardware

8. Test door swing and alignment (door should not swing open or closed on its own, should latch and open smoothly, should have even spacing all around the door -- you should be able to slide a quarter all the way around the sides and top of the door)

9. Shim door hinges/adjust as needed

Customer video review of Poplar Interior Door Slab (6 Panel)

Could not be more pleased with my poplar door from Pease! The tolerances and attention to detail are spot on. We decided to convert our large upstairs family room into a studio apartment. The door into the family room was originally wood and glass. We ordered a popular six panel door from Pease that nearly perfectly matches the woodgrain in the house. Staining finishing and polyurethane could not have gone more smoothly. As you will see in the video, which contains still pictures, the door matches seamlessly with the wood in the house. My brother-in-law and I have additional projects in mind and we will only consider a door from Pease.

More to come!

Customer photo review of Poplar Interior Door Slab (6 Panel)

We ordered a 6-panel poplar door to finish off the remodel of our master bathroom bath. It arrived very promptly, packed well and strapped to a pallet that I was abe to use to work on it in our garage. I will note that through the years, the grain of the poplar from the closet doors to the left in the picture (2000) is different from the door we received. It's my understanding that it can reflect the age of the tree when it's harvested. We made it into a pocket door for the bathroom. Our purchased door is on the right in the bedroom pictures and I included one from inside the bathroom as well ( a little brighter lighting). Quite pleased with the purchase overall.

We just completed a renovation in a home built around 30 years ago with all stained doors and trim. We were able to salvage the trim, but the doorways were widened requiring us to purchase new doors. After a debacle from a local lumber yard with doors that didn't stain well we were able to find the style we were looking for and a beautiful product. These doors stained beautifully and will allow us to finish with completely happy clients! Thanks!

Love it

Doors are beautiful. Will advise after they have been painted. Not sure yet about the hinges as they appear at first as too wide for the 1 3/8" door widths. Sanding and second coat of paint today. Will check hinges tomorrow and advise. Sherwin Williams paint seems excellent (high bond). Outstanding customer service from Kim and Kerry. Hang on to them. Excellent customer service from people instead of computers is so rare these days. Customers will hold on to companies with excellent customer service. So, excellent products and excellent people. Thank you. Dave Griffin

The team is extremely responsive and has excellent customer service. Quality products, quick shipping, and fair prices. Will use them for all future projects.

Good

They are in the basement getting painted. I will send pic when project is finished after Xmas!

The door is really solid and a nice piece of poplar. Staining went very well. Shipping was fast. Highly recommend!

One of best quality doors ever bought. Definitely will be a returning customer.

Door is a hard to find - high quality product - thank you!! This will work great in my home.

Super fast shipping!; really didn't want to spend $300+ dollars on a single door, but had to get it replaced and they where one of the few places offer the 20" door.

The door arrived on a pallet and was wrapped extremely well. No damage at all. I noticed the quality of the wood was superior to the big box stores. I will definitely be ordering from Pease Doors again.

Excellent customer service and prompt shipping. Doors were professionally packaged and came on a pallet delivered by FedEx. Very pleased. Second set of doors purchase from Pease in the past 3 months. Highly recommend.

Customer Reps were very helpful and professional . Door arrived in excellent condition and on time. Good quality door. All GOOD!!!

Easy to order, good price & delivered with ease. Bailed me out of a tough job with an odd sized door. Will shop with yall again!

Shipping took two weeks longer than specified on website at time of purchase. Fedex, the shipper, was not the cause of delayed delivery. The item was at Pease Doors most of the time - or perhaps not even manufactured at the time of purchase. Damaged when it arrived.

Pease Doors had hard to find doors on hand. Ordering was simple. Delivery time was short. Packaging was fantastic. And the doors themselves were phenomenal. Even my contractor could not get over how beautiful they were and how happy he was to work with poplar doors. They are exceptionally well made and look exquisite!

Great company and fantastic customer service. Door arrived with damage done during transport. Company immediately responded to my email, within one hour, and immediately sent me a new door as replacement. Darn good door, too.
